The city prosecuting attorney shall be a person licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri and be a resident of the city.

The city prosecuting attorney shall receive for his services an annual compensation of twenty-eight thousand dollars ($28,000.00), which compensation shall be paid bi-weekly. Nothing herein contained shall be construed to mean the city prosecuting attorney is a general employee for purposes of Section 2-53.

(a) 
The city prosecuting attorney shall prosecute all violations of municipal ordinances of the city in all courts of the state and shall do everything incidental thereto.
(b) 
In the absence of the city counselor, the city prosecuting attorney may perform the duties of that office as established by ordinance at such compensation as may be by ordinance established.
